Short Term Accommodation (STA)
Your home away from home
What is STA?
Short Term accomodation (or Respite) is basically a 24 hour block of support for a participant. In this block, everything is paid for - 24 hour care, all the activities, food. The Participant can have up to 30 days in STA or Respite.
At KDC, we have our very own home reserved just for STA.
Although Short Term Accomodation (or STA for short) is normally done in one of the Provider's homes, at KDC we also offer doing providing STA support in your home if you're more comfortable with that.
STA is an integral and versatile part of disability care process. At KDC, We provide 24 hour care that caters for everything and organise fun activities for the Participant to enjoy.
What are the benefits of STA?
- There are many benefits to STA or Respite. Participants and their families usually use it for one or more of the following:
- It allows the Participant to have an all-expenses paid break and have a great time with KDC Support Workers
- It allows Carers to get a much needed break from time to time.
- It can be used for a holiday
- It can be used in a crisis situation
What does STA look like at KDC?
24 hour care that caters for everything and organise fun activities for the Participant to enjoy
1. Initial Meet And Greet
First off, we organise a meet and greet for the client, family, support coordinators and the team.
Here we learn all about our new client; what they like, interests, the type of carers they would like and other information to offer the most holistic, outcome-focused support.
We are committed to providing the most personalised STA and Respite Support to meet the needs of our Participants.

2. Learn about the Participant needs
We talk to the Participant, their family, Support Coordinators and Allied Health Professionals to get a comprehensive understanding of how to best support our new client in their home.
We will organise training with the BSP clinician or OT if necessary to ensure that we are equipped and ready to support the Participant.
3. Organise fun activities for the Participant
The next step is to create a plan of what the Participant wants to do during their STA time with us – after all, it’s all about making sure the Participant has a good time:
Some of the things we can do include:
- Movies
- Zoo
- Games
- Getting nails done
- Massage

4. Regular Communication With You And Your Family
Regular feedback is very important to us at Koala Disability Care. It ensure that your needs are met and you are satisfied.
